A Walk Through Memory Lane

I was checking out some videos and I came across this video -- Bryan Adam's Heaven ---

It reminded me of someone and I remember that this person gave me a song. But for the life of me, I couldn't remember the title or melody. I couldn't let it go, so I decided to check out letters and diaries to check for the title of this song.

You see, I'm a hoarder of letters and a keeper of diaries. In today's world where you can contact someone across the globe through chat or email, letters -- handwritten and mailed -- are treasures. I have my own treasures.

letters and diaries -- keepers of memories. I only realized tonight I've lost 5 diaries.

Opening the letters though, I went on a trip on memory lane.

There's Jess' letter to me in Grade Six. He is Cheryl's husband
. They became girlfriends/boyfriends when we were in 6th grade and just before he left for Saudi then, he wrote me a letter asking me to take care of Cheryl, who is now his wife.

And then there's the stupid drawing that a crush made when I was in Second Year High School. I kept the stupid paper.

And then there's those silly High School notes like this one --

And then there's Sussette's and Tin's letters. Set and I wrote numerous letters to each other back in college even though we were together daily. Tin and I wrote letters during school breaks when she had to go back to Tabaco.

And then there's there's Lon's letters. I think he wrote more letters to me than Tin, his girlfriend. Right, Lon?

In truth, there were so many letters from so many, many people who were and still are a part of my life.

And then, there's THE letter. This one never fails to make me cry. I avoid it like the plague. Together with the letter is the Van Gogh Diary. Painful reminders of a great friendship gone awry because I fell in love. Anyway, after so many years, I opened the letter and read it. It was only then that I remembered the song that prompted the memory lane trip in the first place. You see, it was this letter-giver that also gave me the song.

And then finally, I came across Erbe's 12 letters -- the letters he wrote to me for every month of the first year that we were together.

You should try reading old letters. The whole experience is often bittersweet, but it's certainly worth it.

By the way, in case you are wondering what song was it that started the whole thing, well, it's this song -- Right Next to Me by Whistle --

There's a part of the song that goes --

If You've Learned To Love Me Baby
You'll Wait 'til I Return

Well, I waited, he did not return.
