The Benefits of Oregano

Oregano (Scientific name: Origanum vulgare) is also known as Wild Marjoram, Mountain Mint, Origanum, Wintersweet and Winter Marjoram.

Hand of Hope: Samuel Alexander Armas

A picture began circulating in November. It should be "The Picture of the Year," or perhaps, "Picture of the Decade." It won't be. In fact, unless you obtained a copy of the paper, you probably will never see it.

Tracey Connelley, Baby P's Evil Mom, Shows NO Remorse

I have never been affected by any story as much as Baby P's story has affected me. Yesterday evening, I found myself sobbing twice! I just can't get over the sheer horror of the story.

Baby P's Murderers -- Why Are They Being Protected?

In my country, it has never happened before that the media and the people have been forbidden to actually reveal the names and faces of TC and SB, the murderers of Baby P.

That Winter The Wind Blows Finale: Did Oh Soo Die?

Over the holy week break, I spent the entire four days just watching the 15 episodes of this Korean show. Yes, I am a self-confessed Korean drama addict. I already have my favorite actors and actresses; albeit, I don’t know their names.

Blackout + Scourging Summer Heat

Summer of 2013.

Because we couldn't take the heat anymore after hours of being cooped up inside the house - bearing with the sweltering heat, the kids and I "chilled" on the rooftop. :)

Excerpts from The Book of Awesome

Sweet As Whole

Thoroughly enjoyed this song.

I’m a fan of Sara Bareilles and this is the most awesome – and graceful -  way to throw the middle finger. Winking smile

Red heart

A Night for Van Gogh and Neruda

most-famous-paintings-in-the-world-Starry-Night-by-Vincent-Van-Gogh

My favorite painter is Vincent Van Gogh.  He has always fascinated me.  Although, I’ve always loved realism as a form of art – his work has always called out to me.  His works have this sense of urgency.  You could imagine him slapping colors straight from the tube, trying to fight his demons.  Every color has its meaning.  Every coarse stroke reveals his inner struggle.  There is no other painter like him.  And that is why I’ve always loved him.

But then again, I’ve always been a sucker for anything sad.  And this is probably why I also love Pablo Neruda’s work.  Have you read his poems? I have. I devoured them. Some, I’ve memorized. His words are passionate, unapologetic, coarse.  He plays with words masterfully.  His imagery is sad but beautiful.

I do not love you except because I love you;
I go from loving to not loving you,
From waiting to not waiting for you
My heart moves from cold to fire.
I love you only because it's you the one I love;
I hate you deeply, and hating you
Bend to you, and the measure of my changing love for you
Is that I do not see you but love you blindly.
Maybe January light will consume
My heart with its cruel
Ray, stealing my key to true calm.
In this part of the story I am the one who
Dies, the only one, and I will die of love because I love you,
Because I love you, Love, in fire and blood.

I don’t know what’s wrong with me.  I’m a bit melancholic tonight.  Oh, well. I should just hit the sack. It’s 11 already.

Dear Rarye,

In case, you're still reading my blog...
I would just like you to know that I thought of you today, and I missed you.
Still do.

Love,
Me

I Hate Cartoons...Now!

I’ve recently downloaded Windows Live Writer and I’ve rediscovered my love for blogging. I like the software. I do not have to log onto blogger just to write a blog post. I can just write it from here. I like that.

We’ve just finished watching Little Mermaid Part 1, 2 and 3. God, if I see that blasted half-fish-half-spoiled imbecile again, I’d bloody well scream. Riley likes her and Paige adores her, and they love to watch her over and over again. I used to love the movie until I was forced to watch it a million times and one.  I used to love Ariel. In fact, I loved the movie so much I had memorized the lines. Now, I hate it. I hate it so much. The only way that I could tolerate watching it over and over again is to sing the songs along with every blasted singing fish, crustacean and octopus. This is kind of ironic, I know.

I used to love cartoons. Cartoon Network was one of my favorite channels back in College…yes, college. I’d flip through channels, ignore BBC and CNN and spend a couple of hours on Cartoon Network before I jump to MTV. My best friend loves cartoon as well – and she loved Ariel. Every time, she’d be asked to sing a song during our initiation week, she’d belt out her Little Mermaid song. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard her sing that song over the course of 7 days. But boy, does she love Ariel and she loves cartoon – and that’s one thing we had in common.

A friend used to ridicule us for liking cartoons. He was..well, a self-professed hater of anything asinine, childish and immature like cartoons and country music. I don’t know why he hated country music. He still does. He hates rain too and everything else that I liked. No wonder…

But well, anyway, I’ve recently discovered that I’ve come to hate cartoons. No, hate is a strong word. I don’t hate it. I just don’t enjoy it as much as I used to. It’s probably because I am now forced to watch the same animated films over and over again.  In fact, I predict, I’d probably see Croods six hundred thousand times the minute I download it or buy a DVD for Paige.

I never imagined this day would come. I’ve always thought I’d loved cartoons until I die. I’m probably dead and I just don’t know it. Dead from watching too much Despicable Me and Toy Story.

Smile

I came across the show That Winter, The Wind Blows while looking for something to watch.  It’s the #1 show in Korea for the past two months. I love the lead actress. She’s just too beautiful for words. Anyway, the finale was shown yesterday and I got to see it today.  Everybody in the show’s Facebook page was like, “Did Oh Soo (the lead actor) die? Was it just Young’s imagination?”

The first video I saw lead me to believe that Oh Soo died in the end. I was devastated. I was freaking out. I was furious. I wanted the writer dead as well.  But then I watched it again - and this time I watched a video with different subtitles, different from the other one I saw.

This video lead me to change my mind. I conclude that it was a happy ending. I think Ji Sung and Hee Sun were just really talking about bringing flowers to Oh Soo, and that's that.  (Maybe Oh Soo has adopted gardening as a hobby after all the gardening he did in Young's greenhouse. ) They didn't say that they brought flowers to Oh Young as well. Blasted subtitles. They're confusing me. I wish I can speak Korean. So, yeah. This is a happy ending. Hurray!

But do you want proof?

When Song Hye Kyo in her Star Interview was asked if she was satisfied with the happy ending, she said, "Of course. I always liked tragic outcomes, but this time, both the hero and heroine went through so much hardship that I thought, It would be nice if they could be happy. I am happy with the final scene where Oh Young makes eye contact with Soo."

See? That confirms it, right?

P!nk Obsession

She's my ULTIMATE girl crush. No one else comes close. I devour her music like they're vanilla ice cream on a scorching day. I am a lesbian when it comes to her. Seriously, a freakin' lesbian.
