The Benefits of Oregano

Oregano (Scientific name: Origanum vulgare) is also known as Wild Marjoram, Mountain Mint, Origanum, Wintersweet and Winter Marjoram.

A picture began circulating in November. It should be "The Picture of the Year," or perhaps, "Picture of the Decade." It won't be. In fact, unless you obtained a copy of the paper, you probably will never see it.

I have never been affected by any story as much as Baby P's story has affected me. Yesterday evening, I found myself sobbing twice! I just can't get over the sheer horror of the story.

Baby P's Murderers -- Why Are They Being Protected?

In my country, it has never happened before that the media and the people have been forbidden to actually reveal the names and faces of TC and SB, the murderers of Baby P.

That Winter The Wind Blows Finale: Did Oh Soo Die?

Over the holy week break, I spent the entire four days just watching the 15 episodes of this Korean show. Yes, I am a self-confessed Korean drama addict. I already have my favorite actors and actresses; albeit, I don’t know their names.

Get Fun and Chic Hospital Uniforms and Scrubs!

Once upon a time, I was on my way home when I saw this guy wearing a white scrub for men standing in front of a local drug store.  I can't remember his face now.  I just remember thinking that he looked like an angel.  I couldn't stop staring and he was staring back. Looking back, he was probably thinking, "Why is this weird girl staring at me?"  The car sped up and that was it - I never saw him again. I'd probably wouldn't recognize him anyway since I don't remember his face.  Truth be told, I'm probably married to him.  My husband used to wear white hospital uniforms, so yeah. I figured that guy could have been my husband.

Anyway, since then, white surgical scrubs and medical scrubs have always appealed to me.  I'd often find myself staring at doctors uniforms when I'm in the hospital.  They look so great, don't they?  I don't know if it's just me, but these uniforms are just incredibly comforting.  Anyway, if you are a doctor or a nurse, you maybe probably bored with your uniform.  As much as I am fascinated with these hospital garbs, people who are wearing them daily probably do not enjoy wearing them as much.  My sister, a nurse, certainly feels that way.  She stands for hours while on duty and she prefers nursing scrubs and uniforms that are comfortable.  She sometimes shops online.

I love reading reviews and when it comes to scrubs and hospital garbs, I've read wonderful reviews about BlueSkyScrubs.com.  Their uniforms are 100% cotton and wonderfully wrinkle free!  Their coats and scrubs are cut in a way that nurses and doctors would look slim while wearing them.  Their products also comes with a lot of pockets, so nurses and doctors can bring just about everything they need when they go on rounds.  I particularly like their scrubs hats.  They're wonderfully chic and fun.  You will once again look forward to wearing your uniform! Everything looks incredibly chic and comfortable - and for doctors and nurses who are doing practically 24 hours of work, the words "chic and comfortable" definitely sound good.

Women Love Men in Scrubs

Women just love men in uniform, but you know what else they love? Men in scrubs. Seriously! There’s a certain appeal that goes with the white scrubs.  Call it stereotyping, but you certainly can’t deny the fact. Aside from the impression of stability that these scrubs create, they also give out the impression that you guys (lucky enough to legitimately wear one!) are all-around neat to live with – and women just love men who certainly know how to keep house.

If you’re a fan of Grey’s Anatomy, you’ve probably seen Derek a.k.a. McDreamy fashioning these doctor lab coats and these really cute scrub hats. I think like most women, he graduates from mere “cute” guy to a really “dreamy” one.

What’s this entry all about? Well, I came across the blueskyscrubs.com and I saw that they are actually selling the cutest products for doctors and nurses. If you’re a nurse or a doctor, you really should check out the site. The products are top-of-the-line. They use quality materials that will probably last you a long, long time. I think what sets their hospital uniforms apart from the rest of the products online is the fact that these uniforms are not only functional but incredibly fun too! Just check out this scrub hat – fun!

Seriously, putting the words "cute", "fun", "dreamy doctors" aside, I did a review on this site before and have actually read a lot of reviews on this site. Medical professionals really enjoy buying their products from here.  The quality of their products are impeccable.  It doesn't hurt that the designs are pretty playful.  This is definitely the go-to site for doctors and nurses looking to buy hospital uniforms.

500 Days of Summr Movie Review

If you ever had lost Mr. Right or Ms. Right, then the movie 500 Days of Summer is for you. It is definitely not a love story, but it is a story of love. It is not your typical romantic films. Yes, it started with boy meets girl and a lot of jumping in between, but it ended with boy meets girl.

It touches on destiny versus pure circumstance as well. It is an intriguing piece of work; although the main character Tom (played by Joseph Gorden Levitt of GI Joe and 10 Things I Hate About You) is a bit of a pansy Nancy. He fell in-love with Summer (played by Zoeey Deschanel) who didn’t believe in love in the first place. This didn’t stop him from pursuing her.

The whole movie worked on a non-linear script where the story goes back and forth along the characters’ relationship timeline – all 500 days of it. I love the Expectations versus Reality part of the film where Tom came to Summer’s party with certain expectations, only to be disillusioned by the reality. These two things are shown simultaneously, so you will be able to see the stark difference between the two events.

Tom irritated the hell out of me though when he went into the deep end after Summer broke up with him. I have never gone into the deep end after a break up, so I absolutely cannot relate. Also, it is a bit weird to have the little sister of Tom (played by Phoebe Caulfield) dishing out romantic advices, still I loved the little girl.

No, Tom and Summer did not end up together. Summer actually married another guy that she believes she was destined to be with. Tom was disillusioned but the last part of the movie showed otherwise.

This whole thing made me think of my friend who broke up with her “soul mate” and the “love of her life”. She thinks that everything ends there. She thinks that she was meant to be with him. Perhaps, that is not true. Perhaps, we are meant to lose people along the way in order to end up with the person we are really meant to be with.

Like Tom we need to stop regretting the losses. We need to think back on the relationships and see them for what they really were. After all, there were lots of bad times along with the good times. Seeing these relationships and these people for what and who they were will likely put things in a different perspective. Perhaps, we can finally let go of the regrets and see that we are really meant for something or someone even more wonderful.

Perhaps, we can finally truly appreciate the person we are with.

Iggy's - Singapore's Best Restaurant

Working online, I get to write all sorts of articles for various websites. I once wrote a series of articles covering the best chefs and restaurants in the world. The articles included video clips, recipes and reviews. So, basically, I completely immersed myself in El Pellegrino World's 100 Best Restaurants list. I drooled over recipes and pictures of world-class cuisines.

Overtime, I developed a gnawing desire to visit all of these restaurants. I wanted - and still want - to dine at Ferran Adria's El Bulli and try the cuisine at Fat Duck's.

Now, being in Asia, I knew that there is much ado going on about Singapore's Iggy's. It has been named as Asia's Best Restaurant, and aside from Les Creations De Narisawa of Japan, it is the only restaurant in Asia that made it to El Pellegrino's World's 50 Best Restaurants list. That's definitely something else! You do not mess with El Pellegrino's.

For chefs and restaurateurs, this is the ultimate achievement. Well, aside from the Michelin Stars of course. But you do not get into El Pellegrino's if you do not have at least one measly Michelin Guide star!

Anyway, after a lot of nagging, my friend finally conceded to eat at Iggy's. If you are a foodie, you do not turn your nose up at world-class cuisine. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. After all, the price of the food is not a joke.

If you are a cheapskate, however, who doesn't give a flying shit about good food, you would not understand. Forgive me, but having a chef for a boss has certainly changed my opinion about fine dining. After all, he's not your average chef. He is the executive chef at Mission Hills Golf Club, the biggest golf club in the world.

Needless to say, I'm freaking green with envy when my friend sent me pictures of Iggy's and their food. Well, he certainly has come a long way - and I am certainly happy for him. He used to treat me to Bigg's dinner for menial and demeaning tasks like writing notes for him. Now, he's dining in world-class restaurants. I intend to nag him to dine at other world-class restaurants in Asia. :)

Anyway, here are his pictures of Singapore's Iggy's.

Dakota Skye Movie Review

I have just finished watching the film Dakota Skye. I was expecting to be bored out of my wits. But since I have downloaded the darn thing, I figured what the heck.

Dakota Skye is a superhero. No, she does not really fly like Superman or claw through stuffs like Wolverine. She can’t control the weather or turn people into blocks of ice. What she can do, however, is see the truth. Of course, you’ll see the truth too. It’s in subtitles!

Dakota Skye has some issues about the fact that people around her lie a lot. Of course, she lies too. She has the usual teenager angst. She has the usual meathead for a boyfriend and friends who constantly nag her about taking the SATs. Pretty boring, huh? I thought so too. But the thing is, I watched the darn thing. It had me hooked from start to finish. I guess it helps that her nemesis, Jonah, is a complete hottie.

Jonah never lies Or perhaps he does. Maybe he is immune to Dakota’s superpowers. There lies Dakota’s dilemma. Is he telling the truth or not? Does he really love her or not?

You’d probably read online how much this movie sucks, but to me this is a winner. Hell! It won the Best Screenplay Award at the Phoenix Film Festival 2008. It’s fresh and it certainly offers a new twist to superhero movies. And to think this is an indie film, low budget and was only shot for 20 days!

If you could spare the bandwidth, you should definitely check it out!

The Proposal

Have you seen “The Proposal” yet? I think it opened big in the United States. In fact, this is Sandra Bullock’s biggest film. No, it won’t win an award for originality – there were too many clichés that will have you exclaiming, “Aw, c’mon!”

Overall, though, it’s a feel-good film. It had me giggling from start to finish. No, scratch that, the ending was a bit ho-hum. The film though – tooted as a romantic comedy – fairly pulls out all the stops. It was a bit “The Devil Wears Prada” at the start with Margaret Tate’s, played by Sandra Bullock, minions scrambling to get out of her way. The build-up was significantly prolonged, but you wouldn’t mind because you’d be giggling over the character’s antics.

It’s a film worth watching.

Slumdog Millionaire Review

It was a treat to the senses. It was an exploration of various emotions. It was not “another Cinderella story” but it was a fairy tale. It was a sensory treat which took place amidst India’s – or rather Mumbai’s – squalor. The scenes were not really surprising – they happen all the time here in this country. Police torture, religion wars and poor education system – all the ingredients of a third-world country. However, the way the director represented the story gave the scenes their own special taste. The representation of the harsh truth was so palpable that you could practically smell Jamal after he jumped into the water full of human feces.

Before watching this, I wondered what's so special about it. After all, it won 8 Oscar trophies. After watching it, I have no doubts about why it was able to kick Benjamin Button’s ass.

The children in the movie were marvelous – and to think, they were not professional actors. They were the ones who gave life to the film. I hope that they’d be given the regard they deserve for this film. Dev Patel, however, was boring. His facial expressions were monotonous all throughout the film. He was not able to truly touch the character of Jamal who was both desperate and hopeful at the same time. I know that the story revolved around Jamal’s love for Latika, but I did not feel Latika. The movie was not really able to fully explore the "why" in Jamal's love for Latika. You would have to conclude that the circumstances that made them clung to each other fueled that love.

I didn’t expect the movie to start with torture, but the story was finally revealed to me as Jamal started to narrate every story behind every correct answer in the game. It was effortlessly created – there was no division in time and space. The movie was able to shuttle forth between the past and the present. Every scene was practically kaleidoscopic. You will root for Jamal all the way. You will love his brother and you would understand how murder could wrongfully empower someone.

The whole thing was undeniably fascinating. The images draw you in even though they are almost ghastly especially that scene where the child's eye was scooped out with a spoon. It was almost heartbreaking to see the same child later in the story. He was forgiving and he still had his spirit in him. The movie was seductive and the ending beautifully capped the whole story.

Geeze. This is the longest review I have ever made. What I am saying is – you should definitely watch it!

He's Just Not Into You Review

I remember watching this episode of Oprah where a guy, one of the authors of the book, He's Just Not That Into You, was telling a woman in the audience that her guy is simply not just into her.

That caught my attention and I sat through the whole episode -- which of course, is not a rarity considering the fact that I am Big O fan.

Anyway, I loved that episode and I like how that guy saw through every excuse in the book. Of course, I was not in complete agreement with him. After all, everything has its shades of gray and it is absurd to paint things in either black or white and nothing in between. I agree though that if a guy likes you -- really likes you -- he will do everything in his power to be with you. You really wouldn't have to even ask if he likes you or not. But then again, as I've said, there are shades of grey.

Anyway, when I learned about the film, an adaption of the book, I was really excited. But I wasn't really expecting that I'd love the movie after seeing it.

I loved it!

L-O-V-E-D it!

I swear! I am going to keep this movie and have Paige watch this when she starts crushing on boys, so she won't make the same mistakes I did! Gosh, the number of times I asked, "Is he into me?" and I'd find myself crying over some stupid schmuck.
And there were several stupid schmucks that broke my heart.

The movie is a "girl's night out" movie. You should grab a couple of your girlfriends and watch this! You totally can relate. There were scenes that brought back painfully awkward memories.

The ending is great too. There were a couple of characters who found the man of their dreams, someone finally caught hers, someone lost hers, someone still hasn't found hers... I think no matter what your status is in life -- single, married, or "it's complicated" (as your Facebook account has it) -- you will enjoy the film. You will see yourself in one character and you will appreciate what you have. Erbe got some big kisses after I've finished watching the movie.
:)

PhotoScape

I downloaded PhotoScape and tried it out. Adobe Photoshop is too big for my computer with it's memory rapidly dwindling into effing nothing. Anyway, here are some pix I edited. The freeware works great! I swear it practically has everything you need to edit a picture. It is not as big as Adobe Photoshop in size, so it's great. The tools are fairly easy to use. I swear! It's great!

Obsessed with Edward Cullen

I've become so obsessed with Twilight, the series, and Robert Pattinson. I have read the book -- yeah, all of them!

I have even read the Midnight Sun Draft.

I have watched the movie so many times over the last three days. I have it in my cellphone. I am obsessed. It's not with Robert Pattison per se -- it's Edward Cullen! He's the freaking culprit and because Rob Pattinson was able to pull off Edward so beautifully, I have become obsessed with him as well.

Anyway, here is the link to the books.

Twilight Review

I have just finished watching Twilight.
It had my insides twisting! It's the kind of movie you would want to watch over and over again.
I found myself holding my breath and then just giving in to these huge sighs.
It's incredible. You really have to see it.
I LOVE it!
And yes, it has to have a sequel.
I fell in love with Edward Cullen.
He's my kind of vampire. I'd gladly have him bite my neck to eternal kingdom come. And Rob Pattinson played him beautifully.
Well, anyway, if you want to see it, click here.

Keith

If you loved A Walk to Remember, you should definitely watch Keith.

Tiger Beat teen idol Jesse McCartney takes the title role in writer/director Todd Kessler's drama about a second-semester high-school senior named Natalie (Elisabeth Harnois), who believes she has life figured out until happening upon Keith, a troubled and unpredictable youth who begins to alter her perspective in ways she never thought possible. Keith is based on author Ron Carlson's short story of the same name. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
You'd definitely like it. I loved Jesse McCartney's character, Keith. He is dark and just the boy who would twist your insides. I love the story and how they built it. I guess, the only thing I didn't like about it is its abrupt ending. But it is still definitely worth the watch.

Grey's Anatomy -- Bringing Denny Back is Stupid!

Have you seen the last episode of Grey's Anatomy? They have Denny's ghost back and all I can say about that is -- WTF?

Okay, I loved Denny and I cried when he died, but -- really! It's far from being entertaining. It's freakingly irritating. No wonder Grey's Anatomy's rating is rapidly going South.

If they wanted some crisis for Izzie's and Alex' relationship, they should have made a estranged twin brother for Denny who came to the hospital to meet Izzie. That's a believable conflict. But Denny? Seriously?! They probably are going for the let's-bring-back-Denny route hoping that the once-adored love story will bring the ratings up. Geeze. I would rather have the lesbian relationship! At least that one does not scream desperation, but they removed Erica Han! Stupid!
