The Benefits of Oregano

Oregano (Scientific name: Origanum vulgare) is also known as Wild Marjoram, Mountain Mint, Origanum, Wintersweet and Winter Marjoram.

A picture began circulating in November. It should be "The Picture of the Year," or perhaps, "Picture of the Decade." It won't be. In fact, unless you obtained a copy of the paper, you probably will never see it.

Tracey Connelley, Baby P's Evil Mom, Shows NO Remorse

I have never been affected by any story as much as Baby P's story has affected me. Yesterday evening, I found myself sobbing twice! I just can't get over the sheer horror of the story.

Baby P's Murderers -- Why Are They Being Protected?

In my country, it has never happened before that the media and the people have been forbidden to actually reveal the names and faces of TC and SB, the murderers of Baby P.

That Winter The Wind Blows Finale: Did Oh Soo Die?

Over the holy week break, I spent the entire four days just watching the 15 episodes of this Korean show. Yes, I am a self-confessed Korean drama addict. I already have my favorite actors and actresses; albeit, I don’t know their names.

I Read Your Flickr Comment 10 Years Later

I just read a comment on a Flickr photo which someone left 10 years ago. It was filled with  hatred and vitriolic language. The person who left the comment really hated me - and of course, I know only one person who feels or felt like that. I also know I never did this person wrong. I just had - and still have - what this person desperately wanted.

The one who left the comment probably didn't realize that what she said wouldn't hurt because first off, none of it was true. Secondly, her opinion - especially when stated "anonymously" - doesn't have any weight at all.

Here's a fun fact for you guys - I've always believed that you can't please everyone. So, you need to choose the people whose opinion matters to you. Generally, this should be people who love you or want what's best for you. That's how I've always lived my life. So, if you're leaving me an anonymous comment that is meant to rile me up - you need to love me first for me to give a flying f*ck. :)

It was a sad comment though - full of insults, bitterness and hatred. This person actually made an effort to create an account just to stalk me and leave the comment. I'm so sorry I didn't read it at that time. All her efforts were in vain.

The person also mentioned my blog in her comment, so apparently, she also followed my posts back then (which I know for a fact she did.) Someone mentioned to me that she even had my blog bookmarked. Sad, huh? It was almost pathetic, truth be told.  I wonder what happened to her now. It must not have been that easy to live with that much hatred or bitterness. I hope she's moved on by now though. Jesus Christ, it has been a decade already, and she's pushing...what? 50? 60?

Anyway, if you're still reading my blog. You finally got your response to your comment. You're welcome. :)

And if you're not the one who actually left the comment, and it was somebody else on your behalf, you're still welcome.

Now, stop reading my blog posts and get on with your life. Gahd.

Bato Bato sa Langit

It has been years...get over it already.
And tell her to get over it already.
God.
It's like I am in this freakin' roller coaster ride that never stops.
Let me make this very, very clear.
I DON'T GIVE A FLYING RAT'S ASS ABOUT YOU.
I don't.
No matter what you think or what she may think.
I DON'T.
Get over yourself. God, just get over yourself already.
I really don't get it.
No offense, but seriously...
Seriously!
I don't get it.
A smile, a nod... it won't kill you people.
We don't really have to do all these covert things just to avoid each other.
It's just weird.
You're making it weird.
You both are weird.
And it's irritating.
Erbe and I are laughing our ass off.
You are irritating, but you're a constant source of amusement.
Your conceit, it's amusing.  It's pathetic, but amusing, you arrogant boor.
You love yourself so much, you should just go ahead and kiss your ass.

*I'm just ranting. Curiously enough, I don't think the subject of this rant will even be able to read this.

One Off the To-Do List

Back in college, I wanted to get hair highlights, but I didn't like how it looked in many people. Bessie dissuaded me from doing so. But all these years, I wanted to get it, so I finally did.

It feels good.

Tattoo and curly hair is up next.

Pretty soon enough, I'd get to the skydiving part.

I swear! The contraption with all the hair sticking out looks weird, funny and downright nasty!

See???

There! That's how it looks like now.

May Vecina Should Have Paid for Her Crime!

Justice should ALWAYS prevail.

May Vecina was found guilty. In fact, she admits that she did commit the horrendous crime. Her excuse -- no matter how strong she thinks it is -- does not make it okay for her to kill those children! She should pay for her crime.

Why is it that by virtue of being a Filipino, we turn a blind eye to this fact. She killed a child! No, scratch that, she murdered a 7-year-old child!

That is inexcusable.

Death penalty may be too much, but she should still pay for what she did. She may have suffered in the hands of her employers, but she took three lives in return! What she did went beyond demanding an eye for an eye!

Commutation wouldn't have been given if she committed the crime inside the country! She would have spent 20 to 40 years in prison! Nobody would asked for her pardon! We would have crucified her if she committed the crime here.

Double standards is at work here. We raised hell at Daniel Smith and refused to release him for allegedly raping an all-too-willing victim (as Nicole now allegedly admits). Why do we then ask pardon for a woman who admits killing three people? Why not ask pardon for everyone who committed murder inside the country?

Is murder okay then if it is committed overseas? Are we going to treat overseas murderers as hometown heroes then? Are we turning into a nation of hypocrites?

Hair Wax Galore

I bought jars of hair waxes yesterday. I had fun playing with them. :)

God! Sometimes, I am so freaking tired of talking about this kind of crap. Sometimes, I am tired of blogging. I have to remind myself though -- this is all for Paige.

A Boring Story of a Witless Shark

Earlier today, we decided to eat Lunch at Oysters because we were near the place. Anyway, we ordered pork steak. You'd think, we would get this --

But the waiter came out carrying this --

and when we opened it, we got this --

The word disappointing is an understatement, but it was delicious. Anyway, I got this video of a shark locked there. It's a boring video. I think the shark has been driven to the edge of insanity because of boredom. They should have at least placed little Nemo's there for the baby shark to torture.

The waiter said,
"He's one year old. He's been like that the whole year. He doesn't stop at all." :)
It's a boring video. I'm warning you!

Giving Thanks

I am praying for something and I want to remind myself that I have a lot to thank God for because sometimes, I feel like I haven’t been blessed.

So, here goes – I am thankful

for every breath that I take and for everyone that I cherish and love.

that I am capable of rejoicing in the absolute wonder of being alive and without threats of dying

for my capacity to recognize and cherish my gift of reason – and I am eternally grateful that Erbe possess his.

for my ability to tap into my God’s gift flow of creation

for my Paige and the wonders she brings

that there are good people because sometimes I can’t help but wonder if there are still any left

that there are parents who choose to kiss and hug their children instead of hit them

for everyone who bothers to read everything I write – whatever their reason may be.

for having a good bullshit detector and the ability to not fall into people's crap

for the friends I have had for the last 28 years of my life

that someone still gives a damn about anything -- it does not even matter what.

for things I have yet to accomplish and dreams that I have yet to fulfill – I’m thankful that I am still capable of dreaming

for the wisdom I have gained from fear and stumbling

for the unconditional love I get from my family

for the capacity to recognize REAL love and all its worth

for little things like air conditioning, paved roads, electricity, plumbing, love songs, good books, great movies and sunrises.

for knowing that God truly, truly exists – and without needing to justify my belief.

for my husband.

For the ability to be genuinely thankful for everything I have just written above.

Four Little Mafias and My New Year

Last New Year, I was coerced to "manage" one chicken grill outlet. My role was to collect the money. It was an awful evening because it was raining. I was also a prime target for little beggars. I'd call them crooks or little Mafias. Yep, I'm referring to those four little boys in the picture. Since, I forgot their names, I'd call them 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Little Mafia #1 approached me first begging for money. Well, his clothes were old, but he was not obviously your typical beggar. I think he -- actually all of them -- was just begging for fun. I asked him where his mother was. The question must have scared him off because he promptly went away.

And then came Little Mafia #2 -- I don't know if it's obvious from the pic, but this little boy is fairly handsome. His clothes were impeccably clean and his jacket was better than mine.
Seeing #2 with me though prompted #1 to come back. Both of them began to nag me for a few coins. I was no match for the whining and begging, so I gave in and gave them P20.00 to share.

I figured that was the end of it.

I should have known better.

Little crooks.
:)

A little while later, along came Mafia Number 3. This little boy doesn't seem right in the head. Anyway, I had no coins left, so I told him to ask for a few coins from Mafia #1 and #2 who were still hanging around. I was happy when #3 complied, but then he came back complaining that 1 & 2 weren't dishing out any coins.

I think 1 & 2 did some bragging because pretty soon, Little Mafia #4 came along. I gave him the same instructions, "Go ask some coins from them!" Like #3, he came back complaining that 1 & 2 weren't giving any!

And so, I decided to give 3 and 4 their own P20.00 bill to share. I also decided to treat all four for drinks. At that time, their antics were making me laugh; albeit, I was the one getting conned. So, all of us went to a nearby store. Unfortunately, I realized that I only had P20.00 left with me which was not enough, so I decided to give the last bill to them -- instructing them to share.

I thought that that was it. I felt pretty good with myself. I didn't mind that I just gave out P60.00 all in all. (This is why Erbe and I get into argument sometimes. He thinks I'm an idiot when it comes to these things.)

Anyway, I went back to minding the chickens and the customers.

When, suddenly, I felt someone nudging me. Upon turning, I was dismayed to see #3 standing there complaining that the other three didn't give him his share. And then #4 came along, complaining that he didn't receive his share of the last bill. And then, all of them were right in front of me, complaining and arguing! The customers and everyone was laughing. It would have been amusing if they weren't asking for more! #3 figured out that because he didn't receive his share, that I should give him his share. (I was quite ready to hang the little bugger.) Yep, I lost my halo right there and then.

Anyway, I couldn't just scream at them and so I told them to bug off! #3 took his pretty little time to leave, but he eventually did.

sigh.

peace. AT LAST.

So, I went back to my chickens.

The Regular Caller

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

We don't have electricity 3 days or more every week. It sucks big time because I am forced to work at night and suffer the heat while sleeping in the morning. Fortunately, the air conditioner has been fixed so I can turn the thing on full blast at night, so the room will stay cool for several hours during the day.

Apparently, they are changing the Diversion Road's electric poles. If you are not from here, trust me, it's a really long road. I figured they'd be finished by the turn of the century. Meanwhile, I'd be gritting my teeth 'til Kingdom come.

Anyway, since the regular power interruptions started, I became a regular caller of the electric company here. I call whenever I want. Yes, even at 3 o'clock in the morning! I figured if I can't sleep during the day because of the power outage, then they don't deserve to sleep at night -- or at least, have their sleep interrupted by a shrieking telephone.

I call them like three times a day or more -- actually, more. I even get Erbe to call them up just to ask, "What time will the electricity be back?" even though I know it's usually scheduled to be back by 5 pm.

I call so often that I am the household electricity reporter.

"Nana Viol, there is no electricity tomorrow, so you should wash your clothes now.
"

"Ma, there is no electricity tomorrow, so you should get Cho Melchor to finish what ever he is welding today."
Poor Cho Melchor who was ill was forced to work.

I didn't realize I was calling so often though -- which, I know, is absurd considering how many times I call them everyday -- until now when I called and heard someone said, "Si babaeng taga-Mabolo na naman yan.*"

*(It's that woman from Mabolo again)

Answering M's FS Bulletin

M posted this and I checked it out. I was about to close the page but then I realized that I absolutely do not know the answer to half of the questions --

What distracts you the most?
The Internet and all my favorite blogs.

When was the last time you saw a rainbow?
Seriously, I can't remember.

When was the last time you smell the scent of the newly cut grass?
Newly cut grass? A month ago.

When was the last time you laughed like your running out of breath?
It's so sad, I can't remember. Sure, I laugh every now and then, but I can't remember when I last laughed so hard that I had difficulty breathing.

When was the last time you saw your shadow?
A month ago. I was teaching Paige about shadows.

When was the last time you just sat, walked, and slept without worries?
I can answer this one - everyday. I have problems but I sleep just fine. Thank you very much. No worries. At the end of the day, I just leave it all up to Faith and the Big Boss to take care of things.

When was the last time you pray?
The other night. ☺☺

Paypal Completed But Money Not Reflected on My Bank Account

It's already the 29th of October. I still have not received the money in my Union bank account. I'm so pissed off. I'm so effing pissed off! The transaction was completed last October 23!

I've searched through blogs and I realized this is fairly common. The thing is that I have had transactions before with Paypal and it only took three days for the money to reflect on my account. What is taking so long?!

It has occurred to me that perhaps its because I lost my EON card and I have applied for another. I have the card now but it is not yet verified. Will that affect the transfer when I have blocked t
he VISA debit card that I used to verify my account with Paypal? But I transferred the money to my bank account, not the VISA card! Crap!!! I think I have to contact Paypal.

UPDATE:
I am using Union Bank's EON Visa Debit Card, but whenever I withdraw anything from Paypal I do Paypal-to-Bank transfer and not Paypal-to-Card transfer. Apparently, the transaction is faster with the former method. Also, transfer usually goes like this --

If you do the withdrawal on Monday, you can expect that the transaction will be completed on Tuesday. You can also expect the money to reflect on your account by Thursday evening. So, basically, from the date of withdrawal, it takes about four days.

Now, if you withdraw the money on Thursday and it clears on Friday, you can expect to receive it by Tuesday afternoon.

I know many people are wondering, "When can I expect my money to reflect on my bank account after Paypal completed its transaction?"

Well, there you go!

A Walk Through Memory Lane

I was checking out some videos and I came across this video -- Bryan Adam's Heaven ---

It reminded me of someone and I remember that this person gave me a song. But for the life of me, I couldn't remember the title or melody. I couldn't let it go, so I decided to check out letters and diaries to check for the title of this song.

You see, I'm a hoarder of letters and a keeper of diaries. In today's world where you can contact someone across the globe through chat or email, letters -- handwritten and mailed -- are treasures. I have my own treasures.

letters and diaries -- keepers of memories. I only realized tonight I've lost 5 diaries.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Opening the letters though, I went on a trip on memory lane.

There's Jess' letter to me in Grade Six. He is Cheryl's husband
. They became girlfriends/boyfriends when we were in 6th grade and just before he left for Saudi then, he wrote me a letter asking me to take care of Cheryl, who is now his wife.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

And then there's the stupid drawing that a crush made when I was in Second Year High School. I kept the stupid paper.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

And then there's those silly High School notes like this one --

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

And then there's Sussette's and Tin's letters. Set and I wrote numerous letters to each other back in college even though we were together daily. Tin and I wrote letters during school breaks when she had to go back to Tabaco.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usImage Hosted by ImageShack.us

And then there's there's Lon's letters. I think he wrote more letters to me than Tin, his girlfriend. Right, Lon?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usImage Hosted by ImageShack.us

In truth, there were so many letters from so many, many people who were and still are a part of my life.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

And then, there's THE letter. This one never fails to make me cry. I avoid it like the plague. Together with the letter is the Van Gogh Diary. Painful reminders of a great friendship gone awry because I fell in love. Anyway, after so many years, I opened the letter and read it. It was only then that I remembered the song that prompted the memory lane trip in the first place. You see, it was this letter-giver that also gave me the song.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usImage Hosted by ImageShack.us

And then finally, I came across Erbe's 12 letters -- the letters he wrote to me for every month of the first year that we were together.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

You should try reading old letters. The whole experience is often bittersweet, but it's certainly worth it.

By the way, in case you are wondering what song was it that started the whole thing, well, it's this song -- Right Next to Me by Whistle --

There's a part of the song that goes --

If You've Learned To Love Me Baby
You'll Wait 'til I Return

Well, I waited, he did not return.
